WITH RESPECT...

Schechter souls repose in peace,
you who labored, now deceased.
We came, emigrants, Jews on steamers,
poets, cutters, menders, dreamers.

Grey tenements, layoffs, sweatshop toil,
you who sleep in American soil
knew these well, but dreams you saw,
by a Bronx park, the Golden Door!

Yom Kippur, 1996
