FIFTY-TWO YEARS AGO...

Waiting for my parents
              to leave for their party,

all dressed up, my mother’s heels,
    my father’s cologne, the anticipation,
                   the apartment finally

            mine,

a good store of Oreos and Malomars
              laid in,

I await the crowds, Times Square, the Countdown,
                      the Ball Drop,

                             1960,

first new decade I can recall,

mysterious epic event, seismic solar
             system shift, seemingly,

and who could have guessed what would come,

so much bigger,
panoramic,
kaleidoscopic

                  than anything

            that little b & w

 TV could contain.
