BALLET DE L'HERON

An audience watches as a

        heron stalks the shoreline

                of the river, stepping

with the greatest deliberation, the way a skater

fights to keep his form or a ballerina

           prepares her leap, so studied,

intent, focused, as if life and death

hung on every movement,

which just happens to be the case

in this slow motion dance of

             discord on the margins of

                                        the  Concord.
