POMPEII PERPLEXITY

In the end, a
broken chair,
a silent clock,
a chipped red
brick, an exit
sign that still
lights up and
points somewhere,
all that is left
of a school
that radiated
more energy
than a nuclear
blast or those
rivers of lava
now flowing down
Kilauea into the
cold Pacific, just
a few shards of a
lost civilization.
