TO BE A TEACHER

To be a teacher,
to crawl into your classroom
on a boggy Monday,
to try to light a fire with
wet matches,
to strike and strike again,
to see a flicker of light
in the eye of a student,
to  blow softly on the
embers,
to see them blown out
with the wrong words,
then roar to life with
a question well put.

To be a teacher,
to strike and strike
again.
