REMEMBERING THE TSUNAMI

Flotsam and jetsam they became, a last dance upon the waters, along
with neighbors, homes, pencils, pets, sewing machines,
shoes, buttons, and even the needles and thread so
essential for mending, all swept away,
the friends gone, the communities,
the objects, the old goat,
gone, in a second on a
morning when Nature
had it's say without
a particle of anger
or delight, merely
the bill posted,
the price of
living on
earth, the
quitrent for
our perilous
foothold
here.
