EMPTY NEST

Empty nests suggest
an empty heart,
though some claim it’s a rest
when both sons finally part.
I don’t say this in jest:
going on must be an art,
or a terrible kind of test.
Oh, I’d choose not be apart,
even if it’s for the best.
