I was not silenced by
any argument,
or proposition man-
or heaven-sent,
be it yesterday or today, or
even by common sense,
no, I was silenced, in the end,
by silence,
the thing itself, call it apathy or
unconcern,
it struck me heavy, cold, un-
forgiving as an ashen urn,
it shut my mouth, it stilled
my pen,
it left me pondering
the ways of men.
