IT SEEMS IMPOSSIBLE
Where once there was crisis,
there's now only a cornfield,
here Shays was defeated
near a road I got lost on,
and the neighbors remembered,
though what they remembered
there's no way to tell, for
the flags blew both ways
and the flowers bloomed
irrespective, aloof
from our dramas
or their stone markers,
but a weary driver
looked around to imagine
the day that men's blood
watered this field, then
wondered how to find a
way back to the present.
